Many people decide they want an aquarium and go to the nearest Super Center and buy a kit that has everything they need. Or so they think it does. What they don’t think about is that some of the needs in aquarium supplies will be determined depending on the type of fish, plants and other components in your aquarium. For example, some fish live near the surface of the water. When choosing a light source for an aquarium that includes these fish, you should go with a fluorescent light because they produce less heat, making them the ideal choice for surface dwellers. If you do choose fluorescent, then you will probably want to stick with plastic plants because the incandescent lights, which put off too much heat for the surface dweller, are best for plant growth. Educate yourself. It will pay off.
